THE BEGINNING

Yesterday (5/3/12) was our first operating day. There are 30 patients waiting for surgery. We did 5 cases then lost power and had to stop. Both NEPA (Nigerian Electric Power Authority) and the Generator quit.

The first case of the trip was very sad. A young man with a sarcoma of the knee. Life's contrasts can be very stark. Compare the two boys below-both are the same age yet their futures will be very different. If the Nigeria boy had lived in the USA, there is a chance his leg could have been saved.
